The Holy Father, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, The King of kings and The Lord of lords, has articulated a visionary framework for the future of the legal community within the Kingdom. In a landmark address delivered during the International Lawyers Fellowship’s August 2024 Pentecostal Meeting, at the BCS World Headquarters, Calabar, Nigeria, He called on members not to relent in their responsibilities.
His address, did not only reaffirm the sacred responsibility of lawyers, but also introduced significant reforms aimed at enhancing the efficacy and spiritual alignment of the Fellowship’s mission.
In His comprehensive address, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, The Supreme Judge, emphasized the profound and divine nature of the legal profession within the Kingdom. He reminded the members of their unique and sacred calling, entrusted to them by divine decree, to uphold and practice legal principles in alignment with The Holy Father’s teachings. The Father underscored that lawyers must act as champions for justice, advocating for the marginalized and the oppressed, and maintaining unwavering integrity in their practice.
He praised the current administration led by His Grace, Archbishop (Justice) Fred Oho for its commendable efforts in preserving the Fellowship’s esteemed reputation, and facilitating the execution of its mandate. Achievements such as the regularization of BCS property titles, provision of legal advice to members, and the implementation of the Regnum Legal Education Program on Starcross TV were highlighted as significant contributions.
Looking ahead, The Holy Father announced several key reforms aimed at strengthening the Fellowship’s structure and operations. The establishment of Legal Liaison Officers across various states was introduced, to ensure more effective handling of legal matters and seamless coordination.
The BCS Peace Board is to be restructured to include 13 members, tasked with resolving conflicts and promoting peace within the Kingdom. Additionally, a new Directorate for Regnum Legal Education will be created to oversee and enhance legal education programs.
Speaking further, He also outlined expectations for the upcoming quarter, urging members to provide robust legal counsel, mitigate potential legal risks, and assist in estate planning and dispute resolution. He emphasized the need for continuous engagement and adherence to the values of the Kingdom, with a focus on integrating faith with legal practice.
Moreover, the annual BCS Lawyers’ Convention will continue as a key event, encouraging members to present research and engage with senior legal luminaries. The initiative, He noted, is aimed at fostering continuous legal education and reflection on the Kingdom’s evolving legal and theological landscape.
The Holy Father concluded with a call to the International Chairman and other senior officers to oversee the implementation of these new structures and reforms, ensuring that the Fellowship’s mission is executed with effectiveness and fidelity to the Kingdom’s values. He reassured the members of His divine support and approval, affirming that all ongoing legal matters have been favourably resolved. He urged all members, both seasoned and emerging, to uphold their responsibilities with diligence and faith, thereby ensuring the continued integrity and advancement of the International Lawyers Fellowship.
